CSS/Italy is the Italian Chapter of the Complex Systems Society (CSS), aiming at coordinating regional efforts to foster new scientific collaborations and participation to Italian, EU and international projects. CSS/Italy shares and promotes initiatives such as workshops, schools and seminars focused on complex systems in the Italian territory, in synergy with local existing initiatives and entities from other disciplines.
We strongly believe that complexity science plays a fundamental role in improving our understanding of Nature and in describing real-world systems. Therefore, since the very beginning, our aim is to develop new bridges, as well as to enhance existing ones, between theoretical complexity scientists and applied researchers in biology, neuroscience, ecology, social sciences, computer science, economy, engineering and physics. The long-term goal of CSS/Italy is to provide a ground where experienced complexity scientists, early-career researchers and domain scientists work in synergy to generate new theoretical and applied research opportunities which can have a high societal impact.
Members of CSS/Italy advertise the relevant activities of their groups and institutions through the mailing list and this Website, to attract and engage other members. Advertised activities include, but are not limited to:
- Academic courses and/or programs;
- Local workshops;
- Invited seminars of leading experts;
- Potential research partnerships;
- Job opportunities;
which might be of interest for the scholars of other member institutions. This exchange of information favors cost-effective mobility of students and early-career researchers in the region, enhancing cooperation and coordination among member institutions.l effectively with this task.
Every year, one of the member institutions hosts the CCS/Italy, the regional conference on complex systems devoted to increase the engagement of young scholars in this field, who can not afford the traveling expenses to attend the flagship Conference on Complex Systems and other international events.
